Here is how my grading scale works

  • 90-100:  These are the games that are known forever by generations to come, and are synonymous with PC gaming.  Think Half Life, Team Fortress, World of Warcraft, The Sims, GTAIV, Starcraft...
  • 80-90:  Games that will leave a lasting impression on players, but fall short of greatness, and can sometimes be forgotten.  They are good games, and almost guaranteed to be enjoyable to anyone.  Chances are they try a different IP, and are relatively succesful with it.  Ala Mirrors Edge, Batman Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed, Command and Conquer...
  • 70-80:  These are by all means good games, and should be played if one has the time and money, but can be safely overlooked without having to worry about missing out on something awesome.  i.e.  The Wheelman (any Vin Diesel game come to think of it), Darkest of Days, Day of Defeat...
  • 60-70:  These are games that tried and failed.  They bit off more than they can chew.  Sometimes a game is centered around a great idea but it is hampered by poor services such as Games for Windows.  They hold great promise, but will probably crawl back into a cave and freeze, only to be dug up later and revered by a bored toddler.  You can overlook these games all together.
  • 0-60:  Usually small projects made by a indie group, and just aren't worth the money you payed for them.  Of course, to someone that isn't "proper hardcore"  these are boring and dull, but to a casual gamer who just wants a game to play, these will do. Find at your nearest value bin.
