What would you say if I gave you a Porsche for free, and only made you pay for the replacement parts? Now what if I told you I just made an analogy comparing a major game developer to a car company? And that that car company is DICE? Now if you dont know much about DICE, its fine. All you have to do to know who they are is go over to your game binder, or check your Steam games. Chances are, you have one of there games in there. They generally go by the name Battlefield anything. At least, thats what you probably know their games as. They made Battlefield 2, Battlefield Bad Company, Battlefield 1942, Mirror's Edge, Battlefield Vietnam, and a menagerie of other games. Currently, they are working on a game called Battlefield Heroes, and are giving it away, for free.
I first found out about Battlefield Heores while reading an issue of PC Gamer. It was the Battlefield special issue, and on the cover I saw a gristled man holding a chaingun that seemed to date back to WWII. The odd thing was he was animated. Not like he was moving, but he looked like he had just cam out of a cartoon. When I got to the article, I read that it was a free to play MMOFPS. I have played many free online games, looking for a way to get a good game for free. So I new that many free online games were crap. But Battlefield Heores is not. In fact, the cartoon characters made it hard to look at the game as a cheap knockoff of sime realistic shooter like COD.
Battlefield Heroes plays well, and has managed to incorporate many of the common things that are included in MMOs. These include frriends lists, special abilities, and a extremely diverse range of clothing guaranteeing that no characters look alike. Of course, if you want access to this extensive list of clothing, you need to pay for them, and buy Battlefunds. THough if you are going to pay money, you are going to have tyo pay alot to have an extensive collection of clothing.
On the topic of Battlefunds, it is often believed that Battlefunds are a game breaker. I disagree. The game is well made, and the only advantages you get from Battlefunds that can effect gameplay are the XP and VP(the regular form of currency that is earned in game) boosts.I have noticed that as I have gotten better and leveled up, there has been a distinct up in the damage I can do.
Being the technical person I am, I much rather to be the sniper class, one of the three classes included ion the game. There is the gunner(the heavy), the soldier(the light machine gun guy), and the commando(a sniper class).
